Tuesday December 13 – The next round of arctic air is about to move in this week with the Polar Vortex clipping northern Maine. The set up will allow an active jet stream to bring in showers tonight and then another storm with a wintry mix over the weekend. We are in a pattern that does not hold the cold very long without blocking to our north. So winter lovers may see this as close as the Ravens attempted comeback on the Patriots last night, but falling just short. We will have highs in the 20s for a few days, then snow, turning to ice, then rain over the weekend. This could be interesting for the last Ravens home game Sunday that could end with some light snow.  Then the atmosphere resets and starts over again.

Here is the latest look starting the simulated radar showing  some rain tonight that could end with snow. Then the arrival of the arctic air to follow.

The core of the arctic air will be over us Friday morning

Weekend Storm

Both the GFS and Canadian Models show this storm starting with snow and a wintry mix on Saturday. The warm air will win purely based on the storm track. There is no blocking to our north to adjust that much. But the amount of snow and ice will depend on the arrival of the warmer air. The timing may allow colder air to return with enough moisture for flurries or light snow Sunday during the Ravens game.
