screen-shot2016-12-05-14_42_31December 5th – All signs of winter and the impending arctic blast by the end of the week are still on target. The next storm in our couplet will be on a colder track to our south, but the really cold air is not available for most of our region yet. The Mid Atlantic often needs a few stages of cold snaps to get there, but the pattern is promising. Many storms have been to our west, but passing to our south and east is what is needed for the cold air.  There may be enough in place for the arrival Tuesday morning so that we have sleet near and north of Baltimore that many models are not picking up on, much like last night. But don’t expect much to stick… unless you drive into the mountains or southern PA.

There could be a few hours of a wet wintry mix as close as Boonsboro in Frederick County and perhaps near Gettysburg, York, and Lancaster in PA.

Needless to say, a storm will bring us needed rain (see what I did there?). Reservoirs are low and the average of one inch of rain for our region will be beneficial. Here’s how it will play out. Keep your Faith in the Flakes despite the rain. See the Dec 5th snow history here.

Temperatures Will Crash Behind Storm

Note: There will be another warm up, but that all depends on the next storm track. I think the shift to the east will continue and we may not end up as warm as shown on the GEFS Ensemble temps. But highs in the 30s remaining has a lot of support.
