Monday July 25 – The first big news of the day is that BWI hit 100°F between hourly observations. The National Weather Service has issued a preliminary statement and official confirmation will come later today. There is plenty of heat and energy in the atmosphere to feed a developing cluster of storms in the mountains. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 10 PM for most of our region. There have been a few Warnings tracking individual storms and that will continue as storms can produce winds over 60 mph, perhaps large hail, local flooding, and frequent lightning.
Here is the latest radar simulation slider. This is not perfect, but a gauge as to how the timing may progress. There may be a few rounds of storms between this afternoon and tonight. Delmarva will continue with storms to the beaches after midnight.
