Tuesday July 12 – The air is still comfortable this morning, but you may have notices more clouds overhead. That is a signal of the chancing air mass, and eventually we will notice that more down here on the ground. The increase in humidity and heat will luring us back into the 90s, and some much needed rain. That might sound cliche, but in the middle of summer, the soil dries out quickly and your gras may already be showing signs of stress turning brown.
There are no specifics today but an isolated storms could pop up south and west of Washington. Tomorrow we should get more action into central Maryland. That opens the door for more scattered storms with the sticky air mass for the rest of the week. As for the weekend, we are likely to have storms around at least on Saturday. The modeling has been consistent with this, but I was holding out for a shift sooner. Instead a broad area of Low Pressure will linger and keep the air unsettled to start the weekend. As far as how hot, there is a discrepancy which is why I have two model outlooks to compare below.

Notes: The risk of rain on Saturday with that broad Low Pressure will bring scattered storms… at any time. So I can’t give specifics on timing for your plans. That will have to be done tracking what forms as we get closure.

I think the GEFS Ensemble that I have been showing is running too hot, so we should be back into the 80s this weekend contrary to what it shows below. I think the GFS Model is more likely to verify. Even of the hot day on Friday. Here is the comparison.
