Rain and Thunder Tonight: Timeline

Rain and Thunder Tonight: Timeline

Screen Shot2016-06-15 12_29_27Wednesday June 15 – If you had solid rain this morning, consider yourself in the primed zone. There has been a very narrow band of rain roughly 50 miles wide the extended across central Pennsylvania and Maryland this morning. On either side, it was just spotty or sprinkles. That is moving out, but the atmospheric memory will show this same region set up for the net batch of energy arriving tonight.  There will be a line of rain pushing east and southeast. However when it reaches central Maryland there will be an opportunity for it it ignite into a cluster of thunderstorms. This should pass over metro Baltimore by midnight, and extend off to Delmarva early Thursday morning.

Here is a look at the radar simulation. Below, an answer to the most popular question today: What about Friday’s weather.

The best chance for thunderstorms will be between 10 PM and 2 AM. There will be scattered showers and storms throughout Thursday, but that does not mean we all get wet. It looks like the bulk of the energy will be to our west.

The next wave will arrive Thursday night and Friday morning. Which brings us to Friday itself. At this point it looks like the best chance for rain will be morning to mid day. Then as Low Pressure slips south, we will dry out, but have a cool northeast wind. So if you have plans Friday afternoon and evening, keep them.
