Friday April 1 2016 – Please let me start by saying I would never joke about the weather, so check the April Fools fear at the door. We start today near 70°F and could get close to 80°F. That comes with the price tag of showers this morning and developing thunderstorms. NOAA has a slight risk of severe storms including southern Maryland and the lower Eastern Shore. The risk of showers will be highest late morning, but some could still pop up this afternoon. The weekend gets interesting: Rain will linger Saturday, then a strong clipper will bring strong winds and possibly snow showers Saturday night. A High Wind Watch is in effect for Sunday. Then Opening Day brings another system and the timing is speeding up.
Note: April is a wild month with Baltimore:
- Average a high of 59°F on the 1st to 70°F on the 30th.
- Extremes: April 18th holds the record high and low. Hottest was 94°F in 1896; Coldest high temp was 34°F in 1875
- Most snow: 9.4″ on April 1 in 1924
Here is a quick look at the maps

The timing of this system is speeding up. You may have noticed your phone app boosting temps back into the 60s. That could be IF the rain holds off as warm air surges ahead of the clipper. But the timing is earlier, so my concern will be rain possibly arriving before the game is finished. [metaslider id=35841]

This is s new look at the spread every 6 hours across each day. Notice the cold this weekend but also next Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the 40s
