The National Weather Service has posted a Tornado Watch (yellow shaded counties) until 11 PM this evening. The warm air has surged north pushing the 60s and some 70s into the Mid Atlantic. Strong winds aloft will allow developing thunderstorms from the south to blossom and turn severe. These may contain winds over 60 mph, large hail over 1 inch in diameter, and isolated tornadoes.
Watch surface winds along I-95 region. When from the southeast, the often can enhance storm development in the metro areas.
The storm movement is from south to the north northeast. Please stay close for updates. A Watch means the conditions are possible. If a Warning is issued, that would be more specific with the actual event occurring at that time.
Flooding is still a possibility and it does not take severe storms to bring that. The ground is already saturated, so moderate downpours or regular thunderstorms could add to the ground water problems.
