Flood Watch: Thunderstorm Timeline And Snow Chance Next Week

Screen Shot2016-02-03 05_39_15February 3 – A Flood Watch is in effect today through 5 PM Thursday. This is a combination of heavy rain, snow melt, and the mild air to follow allowing for more melting after the rain ends. Light rain has moved in this morning, but there will be a break before more is on the way. The first wave was the warm front and the wind shift is what will surge in the warm air and energy. We should at least hit 60°F, which is 17 degrees above normal. But we will make a run for the record of 66°F (1932) which is dependent on the timing of the thunderstorms on the way in. Metro Baltimore should see that early afternoon, with each moment allowing more time for more heat and energy to flow in.  The cold front should stall with a second surge of heavy rain and T’Storms during the afternoon rush hour. Total rainfall expected will be between 1 and 2 inches. See the timeline below.

A cool down will follow this storm, but the complex pattern sets up a system to develop overhead early next week. A large storm will form off the southeast coast Sunday but head out to the Atlantic and miss us. It will be a second storm developing by Tuesday that could bring us some snow.  Winter is not done, but it is too early to say how much this could bring. Just hope for those holding on to their Faith in the Flakes and wanted to prove the groundhog wrong.

Temperature Outlook

Note: The adjustment here is the trend colder at the end of the 10 day period. There will be a winter pattern setting up for the middle of February.
