Pattern Changer And Groundhog Day Suggestion

Pattern Changer And Groundhog Day Suggestion

GoesWestJanuary 30- One week ago today we were in the thick of the biggest snowstorm in Maryland history. A storm that dumped over a foot of snow by sunrise and double by the end of the day. The crews have worked all week while many school remained closed and the State of Emergency has been lifted. While we start in the deep freeze, a dramatic warm up is underway. I have lots of maps here to show it.

We need to look west at the plume of storms off the El Nino charged Pacific to see the pattern change. This will focus the storms on the western US and Rockies, which tend to ride to the Great Lakes and tend to be warmer for us. The next storm track will be warm for us, leading to a big thaw. But an abrupt change will come mid week and we could see snow again next weekend. I still recommend to make sure you clear local storm drains are clear so we limit the flooding potential. The groundhog should suggest much more winter to go.

First Wave: Monday

There will be a band of rain arrives.

Groundhog Day:  Shadow seeing morning

With High Pressure in control, a clear night might have some clouds from the west arriving ahead of the next system. Punxsutawney Phil should see his shadow. So winter lovers have hope for an extended winter regardless of the big but brief warm up that will follow.

The Big (Warm) Storm:

Here is the mid level energy in the form of winds around 5,000 Ft aloft (850 mb). Notice when it crosses our region there will be surge of warm winds,  strong storms, then a cool down will follow.

Snow Next Weekend?

WE might have another repeat of what just happened on Friday. A strong storm off of the coast with upper level energy racing to catch up. It will not time out for the east coast, but the clipper will dive southeast bringing more snow showers and squalls Saturday. *At least as it times out now. This timing may change over the week.

I figured in honor of the Blizzard of 2016, this should be kept at $16.

It is now the top item in our new store page.  Order now as it will only be available until Thursday Feb 4. Then we go to print. This keeps the cost down 🙂
