One look at the morning radar and we see something new this winter. For snow lovers, this a a beautiful thing. For travelers this could be a big headache. For reference, this looks worse locally that it will be as the bulk will hit the mountains and ride north of central Maryland. But the core of the vort max/upper level energy will be the focus I highlighted, which will arrive between 6 PM and 8 PM.
Stickage: The will be some showers ahead of this as rain or a mix with temperatures into the 40s during the afternoon. But a big drop will bring in snow and the possible Flash Freeze on the roads I mentioned in my prior post. The potential for anything to lay and stay at best is a dusting on the grass and car tops. Faith in the Flakes- It’s something snow lovers.
Wind Advisory
The gusts of winds with the arctic air will range between 20 to 30 mph, but gusts could jump up to 50 mph. The Wind Advisory kicks in at 4 PM and lasts through midnight, which i when the last of the snow showers and flurries should pass through. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect in western Maryland as the mountains by Wisp Ski Resort will get between 2 to 4 inches of snow. Their snow will start later this morning and last through Wednesday morning. Blowing and drifting snow will make for tough travel throughout the mountains of West Virginia and western Pennsylvania as well.
Wind Speeds
Note: Winds will settle a little by Wednesday morning. But with the air temperature in the teens to near 20°F, the wind chill will be near ZERO.
Snow Timeline
There will be snow on the radar in western Maryland and central Pennsylvania by mid day. But some initial showers with temps in the 40s will be rain early afternoon. Then a change over to snow in the evening. The worst conditions around Baltimore will be between 6 and 8 PM
Crashing Temperatures: Flash Freeze?
The drop below freezing with the snow burst cold make wet roads turn icy in a hurry this evening. The amount of snow might be enough for a dusting of snow on the grass and car tops. Just a little bit is all it takes for a problem.
