Flurries have made it into central Maryland, and for some that might take the sting out of the air. The return of winter in this arctic blast will either feel good to winter lovers or just plain hurt. Temps are near freezing, but the winds are picking up and will gust over 20 mph, making it feel much colder. In fact the increase in the wind will make it feel even colder later today through mid day Tuesday. Below is a timeline slider of wind chills for our area.
The headline might be the snow shower or flurries you can see. It has been spotted on Doppler Radar with a band in Baltimore County along I-83 and dropping southward through Cockeysville towards Towson, and possibly Baltimore. Another band reached Frederick, but the main hit will be in Garrett County where the western Maryland mountains, especially by Wisp could get between 2 and 4 inches of fresh snow. The higher peaks of Snowshoe, WV and Seven Springs could get up to 6 inches of powder from the Lake ‘Enhanced’ snow. Faith-in-the-Flakes*
Winds
The wind speed will increase throughout the day as the colder air spills in. This should gust between 20-30 mph, sometimes higher. That will actually drop the wind chilly during the afternoon and evening. See that breakdown below. The wind direction plus the upper level energy will determine where snow showers and flurries may reach, but the chance will stay with us throughout the day and night.
