The push of more moisture along with the warm air had developed dense fog overnight. As the rain has moved in, the fog is thinning, but that does not help travel. I do expect better visibility before the 10 AM expiration of this Dense Fog Advisory, but the trade off will be rain. Note: There is fog south of Baltimore and around the Bay outside of the advisory counties shown here. Expect periods of heavy rain and possibly thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. See the radar simulation below. That may limit the warm up today, but some models still have us near the record of 69°F set in 1990. The Christmas Eve record high of 65F is a guarantee to fall with highs in the 70s tomorrow. But at this to your chatter today: The warmed Christmas in Baltimore was 72°F in 1964. So yes, it has been this warm, this late before. Also, the snowfall for that winter was 18.6″, very close to the long term average. There is plenty of winter left for snow lovers. FITF

There will be more rain chances into the weekend, but I wanted to focus on the temperature outlook for now…
Record Warm Pattern Breaking Down:
Here is a quick look at the upper level temperatures at around 5,000 Ft. This shows well above normal temps this week, but by New Year’s Day a return to cooler air. This is not the arctic outbreak some of you would like, but a signal that we can break this heat pump from El Nino and the Pacific.
