The radar this morning showed a pocket of snow in Pennsylvania. In fact there were some pockets of snow ‘on radar’ seen last night that may have triggered your phone app to alert you flakes were on the way. Not too much excitement as the air is dry and these are mainly flurries staying north in Pennsylvania. There might be a chance this reaches Hanover and York, and near the northern Maryland border, but that’s about it. This is actually a signal of warming. No more flurries this week as we warm past Thanksgiving into the big shopping Friday followed by a rainy pattern setting up this holiday weekend.
Note: My Winter Outlook for 2015-2016 was posted Monday evening. It looks like a slow start to winter for us, but then the back half will be very active.
Last week I identified this upper level pattern as the best chance for flurries. This energy at the jet stream level helps to carry moisture from the Great Lakes, but it is not much and a signal of a warmer pattern for the rest of the week. After a quiet week, temperatures will warm Thanksgiving Thursday into the 50s, and then 60s on Friday. We will watch a front stall overhead and bring us a few days with rain…
