If you were stuck in the fog Thursday, it is going to happen again. A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued overnight through Friday morning for central and southern Maryland west of Chesapeake Bay. In fact as I write this on Thursday evening, Baltimore’s BWI was reporting 63F with fog. There has been an equilibrium reached with the nearby Bay and since we have the entire night ahead with clear sky above, more cooling and super saturation will occur. In short, the fog is going to get thicker which will make the morning commute even slower.
The countries shown in the map are west of the Chesapeake Bay. This means the I-95 stretch, through Annapolis (and the Bay Bridge), and south through St. Mary’s will be in the thick of it. The Dense Fog Advisory is for visibility under 1/4 mile. Given the conditions, it could be under 100 feet at daybreak.
While the western shore is listed here, a foggy start could lead to another round of school delays for parts of the Eastern Shore. So you might want to check in the morning to see if you can hit snooze.

What about the warm day?
I have been leaning in the direction of 80F for Baltimore all week. All we need is 77F to tie the record high for Friday November 6. A cold front will be approaching and should increase the wind to mix our the fog. The sun angle is quite low now, so that alone would not help to burn off the fog and allow the heat to build in. Similar to Thursday, fog may take a long time to burn off, while inland it could be sunny and 10 to 15 degrees warmer. This was the mid afternoon visible satellite showing the low clouds abruptly cutting off west of I-95 where it was sunny and warm. The increased wind and shift from the southwest will be the hope to prevent a repeat.
