After a week that brought us a record low temperature of 29F Monday followed by 78F Tuesday afternoon in Baltimore, the weather has come back to normal this weekend. A little system will bring in rain overnight, so the ground will be wet for tens of thousands of runners (and walkers) as they the two big events Sunday morning. But there is hope that it will end early, and a quick warm up could make attire questionable if you are out for the long duration. This is a classic example why one simple graphic on a TV weathers or your app could be deceiving. It will rain Sunday, but most will be done before sunrise.
At 7:55 AM The Marine Corps Marathon will start in Arlington, VA before winding through Washington with up to 30,000 runners. Five minutes later, close to the same amount of people will light up Hunt Valley, MD just north of Baltimore in in a sea of pink. The Susan G Komen Race For The Cure will start the 5K race and 1 mile family walk.
Race Weather:
Plan for a damp ground, and chilly air early. If you are a spectator, sitting on the ground might not be an option early on. If you are a runner in the 5K, it will be over quickly. But the marathon will have people out on average between 3 to 5 hours. By that time, some sun will return and temps will warm nicely. So I think you will be fine in shorts and a t-shirt.
