Hurricane Joaquin is more than 1000 miles away from the Mid Atlantic as it pulls away from the Bahamas, but the combination with other weather systems is making for big storm impacts. The waves at Ocean City pushed 15 Ft slamming into the Pier, dunes, and sea wall. An off shore buoy measured 20 Ft waves and 60 mph winds overnight. It goes without saying that warnings continue today.
Farther up the coast , Delaware is feeling it too and less beach to protect them. Karren Messick’s scene of the water to the dunes and fence is just a sample. The WeatherBug station in Rehoboth, DE recorded a 50 mph gust. Here is a look and listen at OC and nearby Dewey, DE to give you a sense of what is happening. Roads are closed, power is out, and over 4 inches of rainfall has added to flooding. See more stats below the video. Thanks to Matt Greben and Victoria Davis for sharing.
