Many gates along the Ocean City Sea Wall have been closed in anticipation for worse conditions on the way. Dangerous rip currents are enough to keep people off of the beach. But high waves already close to 10 feet, along with high tide, plus the winds expected over 30 knots will peak this evening. Sea and sand spray will are not what SunFest was supposed to be about. The Atlantic Ocean has a direct impact from wind and waves compared to the Chesapeake Bay I wrote about in my previous post. The combination of a moderate storm sandwiched between astronomical high tide of the autumnal equinox last Wednesday and the super moon/lunar eclipse Sunday make for maximum impact. Again, rain is not the main issue, but the waves and tide will be. That is why in addition to High Surf Advisory, NWS has posted Coastal Flood Advisories as well. . Water may push up to the wall, with the best chance this evening around the 6:45 PM high tide. There are two separate waterways we focus on in Maryland when a coastal storm arrives.
