There is a complex of storms combined with upper level winds that has a lot of attention today. The Storm Prediction Center has placed an ‘Enhanced Risk’ for part of the MidWest. This may brings a large area of severe storms with multiple tornados, large hail, and damaging winds over 60 mph. The word ‘derecho’ has been tossed around and sends chills for may in the Mid Atlantic and our June 2012 event. It’s important to consider that event is rare and refers to a 100+ mile long path of storms with winds 60 to 80 mph. But this round should pass to our west. Tuesday will bring a chance of store closer, but less intense as an area of Low Pressure moves through. However, since we have had a bulls eye on our region in the past 6 weeks, this needs to be watched closely for our best chance of severe weather Tuesday afternoon and evening. Upper Level Steering:
This 300 mph pressure map is roughly 30,000 Ft aloft and helps direct the path of storms. Note the focus around a ridge of High Pressure in Texas, diving to the west of our region.
