Baltimore needed 0.38″ of rain this evening to set a new record for the wettest June. That would break the mark of 9.95″ set in 1972 when Hurricane Agnes blew through. This evening radar image seems to lock the deal in for us to hit that tonight. It also fits with the latest simulated radar I posted earlier showing a Low Pressure center passing over central Maryland, and enhancing the rain past midnight. Much more is on the way, so we really have to considered flooding potential, regardless of other severe weather parameters.
Why is this happening? It is actually cooler than normal air wrapping up this out of season storm passing to our west on Saturday. Baltimore and central Maryland is the prime target for rain all day with the heaviest in the afternoon through overnight. So you may have to forget the Buck Showalter garden gnomes The Orioles were expecting to hand out on Saturday, your garden may turn into a pond. But Sunday’s weather looks much better. So the second half of the weekend will be salvaged. Similar to Father’s Day weekend, but this will be cooler (mid 70s to neat 80F). See the timeline simulation below.

Rainfall Potential:
Total for both events combined puts much of our region in the 2 to 4 inch range. Locally, Baltimore seems to be on par for at least another 3 inches.
