Thursday April 22 2021
The core of the cold air is settling in now and we should turn the corner on Friday. We have already had widespread snow showers, along with persistent chilly winds today. For the record, Baltimore barely missed the record low this morning with an official minimum temperature of 34ºF. We could match that tomorrow.
If you have not done so yet, protect your sensitive plants! Cover them with a tarp, black garbage bag, or bring in the mobile pots.
With the winds calming and the sky clearing, we will have another run for near record low temperatures. Regardless of the almanac (shown below) we will have widespread 30s prompting these weather alerts:
Freeze Warning:
32ºF or colder for inland counties of Maryland west of I-95, southern Pennsylvania, and central Virginia.
Frost Advisory:
The rest of Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware. This includes the cities, along I-95 and across the Bay. Lows in the 30s, but above freeze, there still may be frost forming on vegetation.
How Cold Will It Get?
Since no computer model is perfect, I have 4 plots for you to compare.
Note: Baltimore ‘Normal’ Low = 45ºF; Recored Low = 31ºF in 1982.

Quick Warm Up
The afternoon should get us back to the 60s. Still a little below average.
The weekend is still expected to bring us rain Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning. I will have a follow up report on that.
Is This A Little Late?

Sunshine Sate Of Mind
I am done with the cold and snow (for the season). I am embracing my wife’s mantra of Sunshine State of Mind.
This was designed by Shannon Berk and we will be wearing it through spring and to the beach.
Double Benefit: Proceeds will be split between our nonprofit Just In Power Kids and the development of my new weather website. That has been scheduled to be ready to launch in May.
