Saturday March 27 2021
Extremes breed extremes. That’s the phrase I had taught my students, and March almost always proves it. Yesterday almost set a record in Baltimore. The high temperature at BWI was 83ºF, just missing the record of 84ºF set 100 years ago in 1921.
This weekend we still be warm, but after a nice day today, thunderstorms arrive Sunday. Then we trend cooler. The next storm will bring rain, but may end with some snow, especially west of the city on April 1st. That will balance the extreme on the other end.
Morning Surface Weather
High Pressure in place brings less wind as we remain sunny and warm. Showers will be bringing clouds in later, and rain tonight. Sunday will not be a complete washout, but rain in the morning, then storms in the afternoon, ends with snow in the mountains Sunday night.
Weather Almanac
Normal Low in Baltimore: 37ºF; Record 33ºF in 1894
Normal High in Baltimore: 57ºF, Record 86ºF 1921
Afternoon Temperatures
Not as hot as yesterday, but still above average.

Morning showers, then a break and warm. The thunderstorms build in the afternoon and reach the beaches at night. At that same time, snow returns to western Maryland.

Jumping Ahead To April 1st Snow
I waited to mention this because I realized the models were overplaying their hand. They have since pulled back on the snow, but it is worth mentioning…..
This will be a rain event, but end with snow in the western/inland part of our region. April Fool’s Day may just be nature playing a joke on us, or hearing somewhere online that we have a snowstorm. That ‘storm’ may be true to our north, but we do have a good chance for flakes to fall in the inland counties.
Don’t expect much to lay and stay, but seeing it fall after reaching the 80s is noteworthy and actually to too rare. I wanted to show you so the rumors of a snowstorm can be quelled.
Storm Animation
Rain Wednesday ends with some snow in our western suburbs early Thursday morning (April 1). It does look less impressive when we see it in motion. But this may be a late season snowstorm for northern PA and New England.
