Monday March 22 2021
Yesterday we saw the full effect of the stronger sun angle with dry air and ground. Baltimore started at 28ºF and reached 64ºF in the afternoon. That was a 36 degree jump!
This morning is not as chilly, but we will likely end up a little warmer than model guidance forecast. Plan for mid 60s. But winds will shift to the East for the next two days bringing in more clouds and cooler air, only to be replaced by a BIG WARM UP by Friday.
Morning Surface Weather
High Pressure is still in control and will allow a big warm up this afternoon. Another significant snow storm has hit Colorado, but this is normally their second snow season time.
Morning Temperatures
BWI dropped to 30ºF, but already began to rise a little before sunrise. There are some areas below freezing, but with the low relative humidity in this air mass currently, frost is limited.
Weather Almanac
Normal Low in Baltimore: 35ºF; Record 19ºF in 1875
Normal High in Baltimore: 56ºF; Recored 86ºF in 1907
Sunrise at 7:07 AM; Sunset at 7:21 PM
Afternoon Temperature Forecast
This HRRR Model forecast was the warmed model I could find. Often we end up warmer than computer guidance in set ups like this, so we can expect that today as well (Mid to upper 60s inland, but chilly by the water)

Tuesday Morning Forecast Map
The wind shift from the East will be thanks to a combination of Low Pressure off the Southeast Coast and High Pressure in New England. That is what will bring in more clouds and cooler temps.
Forecast Snapshot
Clouds build in Tuesday, with rain showers and fog Wednesday into Thursday morning.
Forecast Animation
The next chance for rain will begin Wednesday and last into Friday morning. This looks like we will be on the edge of a fading system and only experience showers.
The next real event may arrive at the end of next weekend (Sunday).
Temperature Outlook
The cool down mid week will be from an east wind and more clouds. As soon as the wind shifts again, temps will jump a lot by Friday. We need to watch again to see if we can jump above model guidance, and possible see any local thermometer reach 80ºF. The next storm will have a larger impact and bring in a cooler start to next week.
