A quick glance at the weather map and all looks quiet. High Pressure is in control and we will have a mostly clear sky throughout the day. That alone would make for a quiet and boring weather report. I agree.
But something truly special and unique to spring will happen today. Let’s take a look, and also when we might see some rain again.
Morning Surface Weather
Strong winds will be with us this morning and yeah the peak after sunrise.

Weather Almanac
- Normal Low in Baltimore: 35ºF
- Normal High in Baltimore: 55ºF
- Record High in Baltimore: 89ºF in 1948
Under normal conditions, we would have a 20 degree temperature swing from morning to afternoon.
Today: The air and ground is quite dry. This allows a wider temperature swing of over 30 degrees from morning low to afternoon high.
Morning Low Temperatures
These occurred around 7 AM, just before sunrise.
BWI dropped to 28ºF, with some in the mid 20s just west in Howard County.
Afternoon Temperature Forecast
BWI is forecast to reach 59ºF. That would be a 31 degree temperature swing. The longer days and dry conditions allow the quick jump. If you head outside, you might need a hoodie or light jacket, but at times in the sun could feel warm. Especially with full sun exposure in a sport where the wind is light.
*Big Daily Temperature Swing
A jump of 30 degrees or more is our special event today. It is more common in the early spring, when we come out of the chill of winter and start feeling the affects of a higher sun angle and longer daylight time.
On rare occasions we can get a jump over 40 degrees, but that often comes with a frontal boundary or strong warning winds after a chilly morning.
Forecast Snapshot
We remain quiet until Wednesday with the next chance of rain showers.
Forecast Animation
The next chance for rain will begin Wednesday and last into Friday morning. This looks like we will be on the edge of a fading system and only experience showers.
The next real event may arrive at the end of next weekend (Sunday).
Temperature Outlook
It’s time to put the shovel and snowblower away. The next warm up will arrive with a good chance of 70s by next weekend. It will not ‘stay’, but there is growing support for warming weather. Any chilly surges that follow will be spread farther out and less impactful.
