Saturday March 6 2021
This is only the first weekend of March and it still feels like deep winter. Temperatures this morning were at or well below freezing for much of our area, and gusty winds will keep our temperatures below average for the next two days.
I am shifting my focus to what my wife and I believe the majority of people would like to see: The big warm up. Below you can see her response when I texted her the outlook map. I think her words might speak for the masses.
Temperature Outlook
This shows the odds of temperatures getting above or below average, not the actual temperatures. More on the temperatures and my wife’s reaction below.
Morning Surface Weather
That warm air is NOT here yet!
High Pressure remains in control the weekend. It keeps chilly winds in place, but the storm track is way south. If you are missing Spring Break starting in Florida this week, you are not missing much today with rain showers.
Satellite Loop
This is pretty cool. The color change is from sunrise as the night mode shifts to visible true color.
We can see the band of clouds to our north in PA trying to shift south again. We can expect clouds to develop with the chilly winds into the afternoon.
Morning Temperatures
This has been a bounce after many morning lows in the 20s.
Afternoon Temperatures
Afternoon Winds
The stronger winds will be in the hills and valleys inland, plus along the coast.

Looking Ahead:
Jet Stream Through Next Week
- Blue: Cold
- Orange: Warm
The big warm up will be noticeable by Tuesday, then we get to the peak temps Wednesday and Thursday, before the next cool down.
My Wife’s Reaction
Yes, I texted her while I was writing this and she was still in bed. I think she was happy waking up to this. (Yes, she is in my phone as Wife Berk. She has me labeled ‘husband’ and I worked hard for that title).
Does this reflect how you feel?
Temperature Trend
I stand by my conviction that computer models under play early season warm ups. We should have a good chance to hit the 70s at least one or two days next week.
Next Rain: Next Weekend
Next Friday there appears to be a backdoor cold front, seen with a band of rain draped to our north and fading away. I would watch this as they can be very tricky and bring a dramatic change of temperatures from the north and northeast.
The next storm will impact us with our first rain in nearly two weeks by the end of next weekend.
