September 30 Weather Clearing And Breezy: Outlook Cooler And Coastal Storm

The month is about to end with a breezy day. The rain is moving off of the coast, and the sky should clear. The wind will be noticeable with gusts over 20 mph this afternoon. But we have two mild days, before the strong cold front brings in a much cooler air mass this weekend.

As is often the case with an active jet stream, this one may spark a coastal storm that could be our first true Nor’easter of Autumn early next week.

Morning Set Up

This satellite snapshot shows the back edge of the cloud line moving through central Maryland. The breeze will increase as the sky clears.

 

 

Temperatures 

Still quite a contrast of numbers in our region. Western Maryland is in the 40s, most in the 50s, but the 60s are hanging on the lower Eastern Shore.

 

Weather This Afternoon

The wind will be the most prominent feature. It will be steady from the west to southeast at 15 mph or faster.  Gusts will be 20 to 25 mph.

Thursday

After a chilly morning, the afternoon will be warmer.

 

 

Friday:

Rain early in the day with the cold front. This should clear out, but open up the much colder air.

 

 

Weekend: Clear and Quiet, But Chilly. Highs in the 60s. Lows: 40s in metro areas, 30s inland.

 

Monday: Coastal Storm

This would be a great pattern in the winter, if you want snow. In early October, it’s a set up for a Nor’easter that could bring strong wind driven rain, followed by colder air.
