Severe Thunderstorm Watch Friday August 28 To 8 PM

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for southern Pennsylvania, most of Maryland, ad Delaware. This is based on the line of storms with the cold front I mentioned in my prior reports.  The risk will be for storms to produce flash flooding, dangerous lightning, damaging winds, and or large hail, and there has been a history of isolated tornadoes.

• A Watch means is may happen. That would be issued for a large area over a 6+ hour period.
• A Warning means is is happening now. Usually issued for 45+  minutes for a county with local towns listed.

This covers up to 8 PM. There may be another round of storms around midnight. Then another round on Saturday.

Here is a quick look at the set up and short range models.  There will be this afternoon line, another round tonight, then the remnants of Laura arriving on Saturday. This will keep the risk for severe storms around.

Once again, these models are under selling the potential storm threat, and they still look impressive.

These are guidance and not perfect, as we have seen recently. But I wanted to provide an idea of how active the storms may get this afternoon and tonight.
