August 19 Weather Starts Rainy And Turning Stormy For Delmarva And Beaches

Wednesday August 19 2020

This morning began with rain and even some rumbles of thunders on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. But we will get some clearing this afternoon.

An area of Low Pressure is moving through and will be pushing east. That will may clear out metro areas to the mountains, but strong thunderstorms will develop Delmarva over the regional beaches.

Here’s a quick look, simulation, and outlook through this weekend:

This activity is already stronger than any short range model was suggesting. This included lightning/thunder east of Washington DC and on the Eastern Shore. The cells on Delmarva are verifying earlier than the model guidance…

The NAM 3 Km model once again was underplaying the morning rain, but is the best guidance we have. So the storms this afternoon on Delmarva and the beaches could be stronger than shown here.

Saturday: More widespread rain and storms.
Sunday: Scattered Showers. The better weather day of the weekend.
