The humidity will be more noticeable today. This is our natural progression leading into the heat wave, but there is some good news. A moderate breeze should help with the comfort level. The wind from the Atlantic will keep the beaches and nearby Delmarva comfortably cooler. But the furnace will crank up this weekend and next week.

Wind May Help
The air flow from the east/southeast should pick up 10 to 20 mph this afternoon. That will help make it feel a little better. It will keep the beaches in the 70s. It also help to keep many across Delmarva and central Maryland in the mid to upper 80s. Farther inland the 90s will prevail.
High Temperatures
Showers?
Noon: There have been a few pop up cells this morning and could last through noon. If any, the best chance will be west of the cities.
This evening: A line of storms will form in the mountains and may reach our western and northern ‘burbs.

Storm Outlook Animation
In this type of pattern, there is less organization. So I would not put much stock farther out. This model suggests the line of showers tonight could linger in central/southern Maryland Friday morning, with some beach showers Saturday. Those can still be hit/miss with sun in between.
The next chance build with the high heat and humidity next week. Any storms on days in the upper 90s can easily turn severe.
Heat Wave: Bermuda High Style!
This is a classic summer pattern where large High Pressure sets up near Bermuda and pumps in heat and humidity under the ridge over the eastern US. This can be persistent, which is why we expect it to linger next week.
Temperature Outlook
Disclaimer: This product has underestimated heat in the past. It is possible we verify hotter that this. That would put us close to 100ºF a couple of times. This is not factoring in the humidity which could make it feel 5 to 10 degrees hotter.
Records?
That will be tough to challenge with some of the hottest already set on those days
July 19 103ºF in 1930
July 20 102ºF in 1930
July 21 104ºF in 1930
