June 21 Fathers Day Storms Then Turning Up The Heat

Something really cool happened this morning! Today is the first full day of summer, and it already feels like it. Higher humidity after yesterday’s storms has resulted in some areas of thick fog. Even more interesting has been this line of storms erupting over the southern Chesapeake Bay. I first saw this on the visible satellite at sunrise. Then the radar highlighted what was under these clouds. Check out these snapshots at 7 AM, then more on the forecast with the animated loops below.

Visible Satellite

The shadow from the morning sun really highlights the height of this cloud line. May of the areas in gray were thick fog across Delmarva, central Maryland, and southern PA.

This band was south of Annapolis, mostly along Calvert County and moving to the west with the light ‘easterly wind’.

 

More Storms Today

I really need to highlight that the past few days of storms were under represented on the computer modeling. Basically, I can show a simulation but we will likely see more development and watch it be more widespread than suggested.

Both of these show we are still experiencing the air flow from east to west. That means there is ample moisture from the Atlantic to help with fuel.

Note: This model did NOT see the morning storm line along the Chesapeake Bay. So I expect it will miss more development today.

Evening Storms

While computer modeling has not been the best lately, the suggestion here is for the line of storms to arrive later in the day. We will watch storms develop in the mountains and head towards central Maryland before sunset.

 

Temperature Outlook

We often end up hotter that the forecast suggest. BWI and metro areas should be in the 90s Monday, and could reach that number any day over the next week.
