In Maryland the weather has the cliche of ‘wait 15 minutes for it to change’. Sometimes you can travel 15 miles and get a dramatic change as well. Today started with thick fog on Delmarva and the wind blew it westward on to the shores of central Maryland. This led to a cloudy start in Baltimore and Annapolis, but the clouds burned off thanks to the warm late May sun. Parts of the Eastern Shore were not as lucky, and a repeat is expected tomorrow. This is what prompted a new Dense Fog Advisory.
Visible Satellite Loop
this may take a moment to load
This 6 hour loop between 9 AM and 3 PM shows the clouds burning off in the I-95 area, but hanging tough on central Delmarva. The clouds did break a little between Cambridge, Salisbury, and Ocean City, but holding strong in Easton and Centreville. See the snapshot annotation below.
A repeat is expected tonight and tomorrow: These parts of Delaware and Maryland are already starting with more moisture in the air.
Visible Satellite Snapshot at 3 PM
This afternoon the sharp contrast was noticed across the Bay Bridge. But check out the loop below for a better view of what happened.
Weather Conditions:
Where it has been sunny inland temps warmed into the 80s. A little cooler near the Bay with the wind off of the water. Basically where it has been foggy or cloudy, it’s remained cooler and will start with more moisture in the air. This is where the fog will redevelop earlier and hang longer on Wednesday.
Dense Fog Advisory
The chance of thick fog returning and lasting at least into mid day Wednesday will be across the Eastern Shore of Maryland and all of Delaware.

To date, this is still the second coldest May on record in Baltimore.
