I really hope you took advantage of the summer preview yesterday. That’s often what Memorial Day Weekend brings us. The temperatures reaching within a few degrees of 80ºF was warmer than normal, but easy to come by with the right conditions this time of year. What is also easy is another chilly day when the wind comes from the ocean. That is what we have today and we may end up 15 degrees cooler.
Hang on, because a slow warm up tomorrow and back to the early summer heat this week.
Morning Surface Weather
High Pressure in New England and weak Low Pressure well off the coast is combining to funnel in the east to northeast winds.
Morning Temperatures and Observations
The result of the wind flow observed by regional weather stations is reflected by the temperatures. Cooler 50s in Maryland near the Chesapeake Bay and across Delmarva to the beaches. Also up north in the normally cooler higher terrain of Pennsylvania.
Warmer 60s inland where the temperatures modify with a longer trip away from the ocean.
Afternoon Forecast
Chance of Rain?
This may seem counterproductive, but while the surface winds blow from the east/northeast, the clouds wil be moving in from the west. This may bring in some rain showers. As depicted here on the NAM 3 Km Model, this cluster may cross the mountains and be more like across the northern Maryland and southern Pennsylvania counties.
If this verifies, it will begin a window between 3 PM and 8 PM (accounting for some model error)
Climate Report Today
To date, this is still the second coldest May on record in Baltimore.

Looking Ahead:
The forecast for much of the week is quiet and warmer. The shift of winds back from the land should allow temperatures to recover back to normal or above. Also, we should hold off the rain until Thursday (scattered showers) and Friday (more widespread rain and thunderstorms).
