Saturday May 23
Memorial Day Weekend is here but outside it may look the same. Overnight rain has moved north and left areas of fog behind. Once that fog lifts, some sun and a shift of winds will allow temps to rebound to near 80ºF for many. It will feel more humid and there still is a chance for rain showers. Sunday will be cooler, then on Memorial Day itself we start to turn the corner. Next week will start to feel like early summer.
Saturday Morning Satellite Loop
At sunrise we can see the circulation of the Low Pressure nearby. The back edge of the high clouds is well defined and moving away.
Snapshot Satellite
Areas of dense fog was evident this morning, while the surface Low Pressure was located over southern New Jersey.
Mesoscale Analysis
This identifies the Low Pressure and the surface winds around it. The counter-clockwise flow will play a role today. As the storm itself moves away, the flow will push some rain behind it. Due to the location, the best chance for rain in our area will be across northeastern Maryland. But there will be some other scattered showers popping up in the afternoon heat.
Saturday Afternoon
The European Model shows that Low Pressure off of the coast at 2 PM, with bands of rain wrapping around it. While our northeastern areas might get clipped, we must keep the chance for pop up showers across central and southern Maryland in the afternoon heat and humidity.
