Thursday March 19 2020

We are at a point in the COVID19 State of Emergency, when nothing should surprise us. The headline is real and I wrote it to get your attention because the weather will be that crazy over the next few days. We really will have mid spring temps then our first chance for snow in months just a few days later.

Spring Officially Begins at 11:50 PM (tonight), but it will feel like it today.

This morning’s rain is moving out, then temps will start to jump into the 70s.

Friday temps will jump to near 80ºF in Central Maryland and southward.  There will be a band of rain with some possible thunder north of the city to hold down temps a little.

This weekend we all cool down into the 40s, but like the stock market, we will still be looking for the bottom. That may be Monday. A storm will arrive in the morning and there will be cold enough air for snow, especially inland from the Bay.  With most people staying home, that might be less of an impact. Stickage may be something to deal with as we get closer depending on the ground temps and intensity.  So, let’s hold off that question for now since we could go down the rabbit hole of whether kids can play or municipalities can plow.

Many models support the snow as of now. This is the ICON Model. See the European ECMWF below.

When the European Model shows this, it has more credibility.

This may be the classic set up for ‘inland north and west of the cities’.

Temperatures

Stickage may be something to deal with as we get closer depending on the ground temps and intensity.  So, let’s hold off that question for now since we could go down the rabbit hole of whether kids can play or municipalities can plow.

Likely that temperatures remain in the mid 30s. So stickage will depend on the intensity of snow to try and overcome the warm ground. That in addition to how much falls early in the day before the sun angle gets higher in the sky.
