January 14 2020

We are still in the mild air as this new system brings income fog and rain showers today. The bulk of the rain will be this morning, then just scattered showers. The cold push of air arrives Friday, with the next storm bring in snow an a wintry mix Saturday.

Note: On this date in 1932, Baltimore hit 79ºF, the hottest on record for the month. This also happened on Jan 26, 1950

Skipping Ahead: Snow on Saturday

Saturday has been shown consistently to start with snow and a wintry mix. I still believe the models have an error to sort out. I expect the snow will arrive earlier and the storm should track east of what is shown, which could bring us a little more impact. I will have more about this event in my next report.

Note: I DO NOT believe in showing snow amounts more than 72 hours ahead of an event. Projections too soon are often wrong.  But it appears a few inches and travel impact are likely if we get this to begin at or before sunrise.

Saturday Afternoon

I have been using 1 PM Saturday as a benchmark to compare long range modeling.  The European ECWMF Model appears to bring in the snow 6 hours later than the GFS. Bot bring in a few inches of snow then wintry mix. This will play a role in the Polar Bear Plunge in Annapolis.

Storm Animation

This is only one model animation and NOT the final solution. I expect the track will shift east and the arrival will be earlier (Friday night or before sunrise Saturday).
