Thursday November 7 2019

Think about this: The temperatures this morning are in the 40s and it feels mild. These will be high temperatures on Friday with colder winds and flurries. In between, a cold front will bring in rain later this afternoon and tonight. Western Maryland will get their first real snow. Skipping to next week, there is more support for snow on Tuesday, but temps and timing suggest if it happens most roast stay wet.

Thursday Morning Weather

Some light showers this morning may have wet the pavement. The real rain will be after 3 PM. Today’s sunset will be BEOFRE 5 PM (4:59 PM in Baltimore)

Flurries Spreading South

I the the morning, flurries are likely in metro areas and the western suburbs.  Some hint the flakes fly into parts of southern Maryland.

In the afternoon, some flurries could generate off of the Bay to the Lower Eastern Shore.

NEW FITF GEAR THIS YEAR

  • Thanks to Shannon (weather wife) who wanted to bring these hats to life.  *Mustard is her favorite color
  • The Maryland Hoodie is high quality and a new way to show off our love of Snow and State.
  • The T-shirt… Something you may find familiar. Why just a T? Because many schools I visit have the heat on high for faculty and staff. But you can put a long sleeve underneath for cool look.  I will have wifey model these soon 🙂

Skipping Ahead To Next Week

I have been hesitant to promote a snow event a week ahead since models had done that for us twice already and were wrong. Now that ewe are deeper into November and there is more support, I can toss out the hint of wet snow next week. Note that the modeling error so  far this season has been for events to arrive earlier and shift north.  This is a cold front from the north, so it might behave differently. I will be watching and sharing my notes with you.

At this time, the TIMING during the afternoon with temps above freezing would NOT be a road issue.  However, it will get colder so we could start looking at icing overnight.

Notice the Freezing Line:

Snow can fall from colder clouds, but melt on the ground if this verifies. Also, the warmer Bay would add in heat for coastal areas.
