Friday September 13 2019
Today is Friday the 13th and we have a Full Moon. Once we get past that, the weather itself will be a dramatic change to just one day ago. On Thursday the high temperature in Baltimore was broken at BWI with 97º (the old mark was 96ºF in 1931). That was the same high mark set on this date in 1952. I was asked about hitting 100ºF in September, and this is what I found in Baltimore records:
- 101ºF on Sep 7, 1881
- 100ºF on Sep 9 in 1939
- 100ºF on Sep 11 in 1983
The latest date we hit 97ºF was on September 25 in 1970
This afternoon an easterly wind will make temperatures 25 to 30 degrees cooler for many. Yes, 60s to near 70ºF. The weekend will warm back up, but that is when a new tropical storm might form over the Bahamas. More on that below.

Tropical Outlook
It is labeled as Potential Tropical Depression Nine, since it is not fully organized yet. If it does develop with winds over 39 mph as expected this weekend, it will be called Tropical Storm Humberto. While the track is similar to Dorian, this should remain weaker and might linger in the southeast US all week.
