Wednesday July 31 2019

Today is the last day of the month that will go down as one of the hottest on record in Baltimore. There are only three days in the month at BWI with the record high is under 100ºF and Tuesday one of them were matched. Yesterday BWI reported 98ºF tying the record high set in 1940. This weather station has been criticized for running too warm and NWS did state there were some dirt and wiggle room of a few degrees they find acceptable.

Severe Storm Risk

Today a cold front arrives to break the heat and will spark some severe storms. The risk does focus on I-95 and metro areas for storms that may contain damaging winds, large hail, flash flooding, dangerous cloud to ground lighting, and isolated tornados.

This includes Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and metro areas of central Maryland to norther Delmarva.

Weather Map

This slow moving front wil stall for a few days. That may limit how much cooler the air will get, but the heat will break for a few days.
