Tuesday July 9 2019

We finally get a break from the rain for a couple of days, but storms will return by Thursday along with more heat. The other focus will be across the southeast US. The same energy that provided us with heavy storms is getting pushed to the south. The expectation is that as this enters the Gulf of Mexico, it could develop into a tropical storm. At this time, the atmosphere will steer this to the west. See the projections below.

Rain Outlook This Week

Tracking The Tropics

The National Hurricane Center gives this region over 60% chance to develop a tropical storm in the next 5 days.  The models show it likely by Thursday or Friday. If this becomes a Tropical Storm, it would be named Barry, the second one of the season.

GFS Model Animation

The GFS Model shows the circulation along the coast, which would limit development.

European Model

The ECMWF shows the development father offshore, which would allow this to get better organized. At this time, it shows it south of New Orleans on Friday, then moving onshore in western Louisiana by Friday evening.
