A strong storm is developing to our south and will really crank off of the coast. Showers are moving through already, but the steady rain could affect after school sports or even your commute. See that timeline below.

To get an idea of what we are working with, the storm is strong enough to keep snow falling early this afternoon in North Carolina. Here is the regional radar from 1:20 PM showing the snow over Greensboro. The snow was also falling in Winston-Salem, High Point, and Lexington. Definitely signal of the cold air this is trying to pull in. But the real story for the Tar Heel State will be the potential flooding in coastal areas.

 

Let’s take a look at the regional radar in motion. The storm is producing moderate to heavy rain in North Carolina. The edge of the rain will be spreading north. Central Maryland will get clipped by the rain with the bulk later this afternoon and evening. But some leading showers have run out ahead of the main batch.

As of 1:30 PM, one shower was running north along I-97 in Anne Arundel County. This will reach Baltimore City. There is a line with more showers moving due north through St. Mary’s, Calvert, and AACo. But the main batch is expected after 4 to 5 PM.

Showers will continue to be scattered for a few hours. The steady rain is more likely after 5 PM. So this may affect some after school sports and activities.

Storm Animation

Low Pressure will rapidly intensity and pull in colder air. This will churn up the winds and waves along the coast, but also bring a decent spring snowfall to Northern New England.

 

Our weather will warm up in a few days… But our next rain event will be on Friday. Then we should have the 60s with dry weather Saturday and Sunday before the next push of rain.
