A Freeze Watch has been posted for parts of our area. This is for the early morning hours on Thursday when temperatures will drop down into the 30s. The Watch means temperatures may get to freezing, but more likely there areas will at least have a heavy frost. This covers inland areas away from the water.
What you will notice by the map is that it lines up in a very similar fashion with normal winter weather advisories where more snow tends to fall in these same areas.
The modeling is not all in agreement with how cold it will get, in part based on the winds. If it stays gusty, temps will be not be as cold. A calm wind will allow for maximum cooling. See the temperature break down below…
In Maryland this includes:
- Northern Harford and Baltimore Counties
- Carroll, Frederick, Washington, and eastern Allegany Counties.
- A Freeze Warning is in effect for western Allegany and Garrett.
- In Pennsylvania this includes all of the local counties with the Maryland border from Lancaster and York, westward.
What is normal?
This is actually right on schedule, perhaps a little early for most of these areas. Compare and click here to see the Normal Frost and Freeze Dates
How Cold?
The NAM 3 Km Model is showing temps near freezing just north of Baltimore. But the HRRR model is not as cold. See that hourly timeline in the slider
