Michael was the strongest October Hurricane to hit the Florida Panhandle on record and it maintained major hurricane intensity as it moved inland to Georgia. That is the first time on record. This morning it has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm and will be working with a cold front to bring us rain.  The path of Michael will pass within 100 miles south of Ocean City and bring some heavy rain and strong winds.

Flooding could be an issue in Southern Maryland as well as storms turning severe. We still have the circulation of a tropical storm that can spin up small tornados and drag stronger winds down to the surface. But the worst will be overnight as the storm races off of the east coast Friday morning.

The main points to consider today locally:

  • We can see showers or a T’storm any time, building through the afternoon and evening.
  • Steady, heavy rain tonight
  • Rain ends before sunrise Friday
  • Winds will be gusty and stronger after the storm passes
  • Colder air moves in Friday into the weekend
  • First frost possible inland Sunday morning

Winds:

Please keep in mind that a combination of a Cold Front and Michael will be responsible for the winds. Gusts could push 40+mph near Baltimore and the Bay Bridge but that is not from Michael. Southern Maryland and Ocean City will get direct winds from Michael but it will be strongest Friday morning after the storm departs.

The direction FROM the NW will push water down the Bay and away. That means less flooding and lower water for most of us

Temperature Outlook

Colder temps this weekend bring highs in the 50s into metro Baltimore. The Sunday morning low in the lower 40s means inland suburbs wil be in the 30s and possibly bring the first frost.  Garrett County in  western Maryland will get their first flurries of the season.
