Wednesday August 29 2018
Just looking at temperatures this morning and we can see how dangerous the temperatures will be this afternoon. Most start in the mid to upper 70s with a 6 AM reading in the lower 80s from downtown Baltimore and around the mid portion of the Chesapeake Bay. The humidity is oppressive and that will add to the feel of the air reaching over 100ºF this afternoon.
It has been worse!
Looking at the record books for Baltimore, there are two distinct late August Heat Waves that stand out from 1948 and 1953. Check this out:
Date | Year | Record High Temperature |
August 26 | 1948 | 101ºF |
August 27 | 1948 | 102ºF |
August 28 | 1948 | 101ºF |
August 29 | 1953 | 100ºF |
August 30 | 1953 | 101ºF |
August 31 | 1953 | 102ºF |
The heat will break a little over Labor Day Weekend but that will come with the price of more clouds along with shower and thunderstorms (primarily in the afternoons). See the outlook below. The other ‘stuff’ I will be working on for later today: Very low activity in the tropics and tornado season, and any hint to the winter.
