The storm that blew through Monday afternoon was responsible for many downed trees and knocking out power to over 20,000 people at one point. This cell tracked through Sykesville where a large tree down on College Road started the activity. Locals insist it was a tornado, while initially it appears to just be straight lined winds (which can gust over 80 mph). Here is a look at Doppler Radar at that time. The left shows the standard Doppler return. The right is the velocity scan, which does hint that there may have been brief rotation.
This cell moved across Old Court Rd in Pikesville and parts of Towson to the east with more downed trees. If the National Weather Service investigates, it will be today.
