Wednesday May 9 2018

One year ago today, we set the record low temperature in Baltimore at 36ºF. Not today… If you loved yesterday’s weather, today will be a near repeat. The reasons I hope you read this stem beyond the storms tomorrow and the heat building into Saturday. Even more than the cool down and rain on Mothers Day.  I have a new display for the radar simulation and want to know which way you like better: The classic slider that you control or and animated GIF loop.  Please see that in the report below and check back to let me know.

High Temperatures: Heat Builds Tomorrow

Storm Threat Thursday

A cold front will act on the higher heat and spark strong storms. There is a marginal risk they turn severe… Even if we do not see any warnings, some storms can be strong and have dangerous lightning.

Radar Simulation Thursday

Please compare the two displays below. We will have some strong storms between 3 PM and 8 PM.  But which is better for you to assess? The slider or GIF?

Here we see some showers that might get as close as Carroll and York Counties. Most of central Maryland should remain dry.

Weekend Storms and Rain

Saturday is expected to bring us close to 90ºF. That will feed into an approaching cold front and develop strong afternoons storms. There will be a netter chance of rain north of Baltimore into southern PA. Then this will spread south on Mothers Day. This is more pessimistic with rain… but I still think we will see a greater chance of rain during the afternoon and evening in most areas.

Temperature Outlook

The hottest day of the week will be followed by the coolest day of the week. Saturday may reach the lower 90s as temps crash Mothers Day and likely leave us in the 60s with periods of rain.
