Unsettled weather has returned and well be with us into the start of the weekend. More clouds today, but if you see some sun pop through, that will help ignite the atmosphere with showers and storms that are expected this evening. There is a slight risk today of storms turning severe, but I think the main concern will be the heavy rain the could lead to flooding Friday. The region wide expectation is for over 2 inches of rain ending Saturday, but local thunderstorms could drop a lot more (as we have seen recently).

In short, Friday will be wet and rain is likely to linger in Saturday as Low Pressure develops over head and nearly stalls off the coast. That is what will keep showers around Saturday. At this point, our best bet for the weekend will be Sunday afternoon inland, but clouds, showers, and rough waters will continue for the beaches until Monday.

Here’s a look at the maps:

Severe Strom Risk

Marginal means that a small chance that any storm that develops could reach severe limits including 60 mph winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes.

Evening Rain?

There is little agreement on the storms, but the best chance will be after 7 PM: The HRRR model radar simulation keeps the storms south of Rt 50,  but northern Maryland and southern PA are seen with a potential cluster on the NAM 3 KM Model while

Friday Rain:

Heavy rain is expected, but the risk of severe storms will be pushed farther south.
