Friday July 7

A slow moving area of Low Pressure is still developing overhead as it crawls to the Northeast. On Thursday, the downpours set some records for rainfall including for Baltimore at BWI. The 1.54″ of rain set a new record for July 6th, breaking the mark  of 1.34″ in 1931.  It was more rain that we had in the entire month of June! It was also the heaviest precipitation day of the year so far. There is also a new Tropical Depression in the Atlantic worth watching as the track could bring it to the east coast next week.

Rain Today…

This morning has started with rain, but it will be moving off to the east during the morning and allow for some breaks of sun. Temps will surge to near 90ºF, which could fuel some strong or severe storms later this afternoon or evening.

Severe Storm Risk

The best chance for storms will be after 5 PM, and on the north side of Baltimore. Some stray showers this evening could dip a little farther south, so worth watching and planning for.

High Temps Today

Tropical Depression Four

Newly named Tropical Depression Four is in the central Atlantic with winds of 30 mph. But it is racing to the West-Northwest at 22 mph. This will place it into the Bahamas by early next week. At this stage, it is too early to suggest what will happen next. That will be determine by the intensity, precise arrival, and interaction with the next weather feature in the eastern US. But this is one to watch at least for wave action along the east coast.

If and when this organizes with 40 mph winds, the next name on the list in the Atlantic Basin is Don
