Saturday April 29 – Today is the day I had mentioned more than a week ago to get summer heat. That is still the case (for some), but not for al of us. The record at Baltimore’s BWI was 91ºF in 1974. I think it will remain intact, but there is a chance to get close to that. A better chance of the 90s in southern Maryland and Virginia. The reason for the squeeze is a boundary that will remain active with rain and storms all day.

There was rain overnight and more rain this morning from Southern Pennsylvania into Carroll and Frederick Counties in Maryland. That will hold temps down in the 70s on the north side of Baltimore today.   Rain will continue in waves through the afternoon in these areas. I am noticing more showers near Winchester that might defy the models and cross the Potomac into central Maryland. If you get showers this morning, expect the temps will stay cooler through the day. It’s the areas that do get hot later concern me for potential severe storms and I think the Storm Prediction Center might want to shift their Marginal Risk to include more of southern Maryland. Check out the radar simulation below.

Severe Storms

This is the map from NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center. Locally the ‘marginal risk’ should include where the heat builds and the front interacts with it this afternoon. I see Washington DC and south in that zone after 4 PM

High Temps Today

The places with rain this morning should stay in the 70s.  The marginal area near Baltimore and Washington will all be based on the amount of sunshine that can break out. This shirt range model keeps the mid 80s around… The ensemble report below pushed 90ºF

Cooler Sunday

The Back Door Front will allow High Pressure in the Atlantic to bring in a cooler easterly wind. More of the region will hold in the 70s Sunday

Temperature Outlook

We are in for a pattern change holding cooler temps in most of next week.

Storm Smart: My STEM Assembly Program

Click here to see the details and how this educational program is also a fundraiser for schools. We can start scheduling for May now.

Get the award winning Kid Weather App I made with my oldest son and support our love for science, weather, and technology. Our 3 year anniversary of the release and our contribution to STEM education is this November. It has been downloaded in 60 countries, and works in both temperature scales. With your support we can expand on the fun introduction to science and real weather.

Faith in the Flakes

The store is closing for the season. Next week we wil be shifting back to spring mode. This will include a severe weather STEM assembly program.
