March 27 – The infamous Cold Air Dam that built in on Sunday has been slow to budge. That is always a problem in early spring when warm air tries to push out cool, dense, and saturated air along the coast. The is why I was cautious to say today’s temperatures would be ‘near 70ºF’. In essence it wil be warmer inland, but cooler along the waters of the Bay.
The result will take the potential shower or thunderstorm this afternoon and keep is a little south, with a better chance for south of Washington than Baltimore. It’s all about where the boundary set up.
The warm air will move in and allow the next surge of energy overnight. The latest high resolution model shows a cluster of storms moving northeast and could reach central Maryland just before sunrise Tuesday. This should not be severe, but may give us some much needed rain and surprising morning claps of thunders.

The Marginal Risk for severe storms on Tuesday is for another piece of energy set to arrive by evening. Not the morning system.
I will have more on our moderate drought in my next post this evening.

Our 3 year anniversary of the release and our contribution to STEM education is this November. It has been downloaded in 60 countries, and works in both temperature scales. With your support we can expand on the fun introduction to science and real weather.
