February 21 – This morning is chilly as we have temperatures closer to reality in the 30s. Sunrise may have been a sign of the beautiful weather ahead. Talk about extreme weather, this is only the 5th day this month Baltimore has been below 40°F, and we may end the week with more days above 70°F. Much of the week ahead will feature a warm up and the need for any type of precipitation is growing on the side of desperation. Rainfall is about 2 inches below average and now snowpack is helping the ground to dry out more. There is some rain to look ahead to, but most likely next weekend. The focus will be on long standing high temperature records as the jet stream will be dominated by warm weather. But notice that March shows the trend to cooling down.
We have warmed up way too early, and the atmosphere is likely to pay us back with a cooler pattern in March, and snow does show up. at least in the form of showers.
Today:
The return of the warm air will be seen in western Maryland and western Virginia
Outlook
Jet Stream is dominated by a warm flow this week, but trending to cooler flow in early March
