Friday January 27 – This is a little more of what winter should feel like. Strong winds will persist and despite highs in the lower 40s, wind chills will stay in the 30s. Occasional flurries have already reached central Maryland this morning, and more are possible today. The upper level energy will pass through with our best chance of seeing widespread flakes between noon and 4 PM. If you are traveling to western Maryland, Ski Wisp could see 6 to 9 inches of Lake Effect snow today with snow showers almost every day for the next week.

What about us? Next week will bring a few chance for snow. As I highlighted last night, the energy is small and hard to track more than a few days away. The two models I often show for contrast on this forum have changed their projections for next week. This time, the GFS Model is showing the most aggressive outlook for steady snow next Friday. I would NOT promise the time or date at this time, but ‘something’ is going to happen next week and we have ‘stuff’ to track. As a fellow lover of snow, I am hungry for anything to anticipate. But as a meteorologist, I must add the disclaimer that this is all ‘potential’ and not a promise at this point.  Overall the pattern is cold and will be colder for much of February. Here’s the latest.
